Celebrating My 200th Blog
BLOG 200
It all began January 2021 and now I have reached my 200th blog! What a journey it has been. A weekly call to writing and sharing which has given me so much joy. And I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for reading and encouraging me to keep going.
Usually, an idea comes to me in the middle of the night– or sometimes in the middle of the day or early morning when out for a walk-and then it maneuvers its way into my blog for the week. It has been a wonderful exercise in conjuring up memories, thinking new thoughts, writing, editing and putting it out there for the world to read. Well, the world may be just my 153 subscribers along with some others who find it on Facebook each Sunday morning – but it’s not all about the numbers. It has never grown in leaps and bounds but it has always felt like enough.
The part that has been the most rewarding is I’ve heard that some folks look forward to reading it each Sunday morning-those that find themselves and their own lives among the words and shared feelings and experiences. Seeing their names pop-up on ‘likes’ and ‘comments’ - folks who consistently read it each week - felt like a personal connection and I often find myself writing with them in mind – I can actually see their faces while I write.
Named ‘Simply Said’ it has often felt like a local voice reminiscing- remembering what was, how Sag Harbor used to be- those simple joys in life-the way we all grew up side by side and how it framed our lives. My goal has been to have the voice of Sag Harbor remembered – the small ranch houses, the kick ball games, the looking out for each other -the feeling of community and what felt important about living and growing up together. It’s not that the blog didn’t deviate now and then and visit a host of other topics- but the feelings of ‘home’ were the roots I endeavored to plant and continue to nurture.
In checking weekly analytics, most blogs average about 150 reads but some more and others fewer. The most popular or should I say- the most read blog - is the one I wrote about the Corner Bar closing with 1,950 reads. Surely it would be wonderful to have a larger audience but I have felt happy with everyone who took a few minutes out of their busy weeks to spend with me.
I have loved every heart ❤️ and thumbs up 👍🏽 and most especially your comments. Sharing similar feelings and some connection has been the best gift of all. It has made every word worthwhile. I had titled the Blog- “Simply Said” and continue to revel in the simple and beautiful joys of life. All 200 blogs can be found on my website https://www.nancyremkus.com along with my music and some of my Sag Harbor videos.
I do worry that the well will one day run dry and wonder if I can or will be able to keep up with one each week-but so far that is my intention-should I miss a week or two perhaps I am out trying to refill the chalice of life – or soup bowl- or teacup - or tablespoon- and hope that you are doing the same. Thank you to all who have stopped by -it is a door into my life that has been gently swung open inviting all to come in.
With much love and gratitude. Nancy
